Thursday 24th November 2022 | Term 4 Week 6
Kia ora e te whānau,

We held a very special event at school last Friday night - our Leavers’ Dinner. Our invited guests were Louie Skinner, Lily Brophy, Diego Carena-Santiago, Levi Reid, Jessica Lennon and James MacDonald along with their whānau. Catered by the multi-talented Mrs Schaar and prepared by Mr and Mrs Fost with Ms Arkless, the event was a fabulous recognition of the individual achievements of our leaving students. We were treated to a presentation charting their rise to success, right through from those embarrassing statements made as five-year-olds. We wish you all well on your next steps, and are excited to find out where your journey takes you!

This week, a special thanks to Mātua Karatī and our other staff members for stepping in with the Marae Visits for both our Middle and Junior School. The students involved have so many stories and new learnings to share - the experiences have been fabulous. Read more about the days later in this newsletter.

As a continuation of our theme of staffing changes for next year, I can let the community know that we will be interviewing in the coming weeks for the Deputy and Assistant Principal roles. I will keep you informed of our progress. I am happy to report there has been a huge amount of interest in the positions and we are spoiled for choice in our shortlisting process. I will also let you know of another staffing change coming up in 2023, Mrs Longbottom has decided to reduce her work hours in 2023, becoming solely our Reading Recovery teacher, and no longer having responsibility for a specific classroom.

I can also report to you that the Board have purchased and begun to install cameras at school to help us with security inside and outside the building, especially over the holiday period. The cameras are placed in common areas around the school including our internal courtyards where we have experienced some theft, littering and vandalism recently.

Further to the calendar entries that you can always view on our website, an additional ‘heads up’ regarding upcoming compulsory Paid Union Meetings and Teacher Only Days:
  • Friday 25th November - NZEI PUM - collect your child in Years 1-6 from the main entrance to school after Junior Assembly (12.30 pm).
  • Tuesday 29th November - PPTA PUM - students in Year 7 and above will be released from school at 12.35 pm.
  • Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd December - Compulsory Accord Teacher Only Days

And - don’t forget the disco tonight! Have a look at our Facebook and later in this newsletter for times and location as organised by our lovely Home and School Committee.

He waka eke noa,

Kate Staniford
