Term 3 | Week 5
Kia ora e te whānau!

I hope this newsletter finds you all well in your bubbles? I'm sure you, like us, are eagerly awaiting the government announcement on Friday. This will enable us to forward plan as we move through these challenging times.

I'm thankfully in the position where I can congratulate both our staff and students for their resilience and adaptability in these changed circumstances. Our staff have pulled together to create structured learning programmes for our learners, and the vast majority of learners are engaging with these programmes. We've delivered devices and hard copy learning packs far and wide, thanks to a small team of staff volunteers, and we've applied for internet connections for families who have limited connectivity. I'd also like to thank the parents who have been in contact with messages of support over the last week, it is greatly appreciated.

In the event that we do have the opportunity to move to Alert Level 3 in the near future, the school will need to make the necessary preparations. For us, this means:
  • we need to know which students under the age of 14 must return to school - please complete this survey urgently if your child cannot continue to work at home due to essential worker requirements
  • a thorough clean of the school (this has the potential to mean a slightly delayed start)
  • securing appropriate staff to supervise school 'bubbles'. Returning students will continue to work on their online programme whilst on the school site, classroom teachers will continue to plan and deliver their learning programmes remotely.
Please complete the survey as soon as possible so that your child is included in the plans if they need to be.

May I also remind our whānau that the use of the school site (including grounds) is prohibited under Ministry of Health regulations. Unfortunately, we had an alarm activation earlier this week due to tampering with the external doors at school. This resulted in both a Caretaker and Police callout - it would be great if we could all continue to work together to reduce situations where we have to break our family bubbles. Whilst re-securing the site, the Caretaker noted a small number of unsupervised young children on the site - please let your children know that they cannot use the school property at this time. This will become even more important if we have Level 3 bubbles at school in the near future as we will need to ensure the bubbles don't mix! Your support is greatly appreciated.

Stay safe, keep well and kia kaha!
